Pileated Woodpecker

Filmed this clip of a Pileated Woodpecker at the town of Fairfield Mill Hill Open Space adjacent the ALT Acorn Lane Preserve. You'll recognize the distinctive call and the boring sound can be heard from a long distance away.
A large bird about 16-19" tall. Gives me a headache just watching the drilling action!

Wonderful video! I always perk right up when I hear that sound, then I'm on the hunt. Pileated are just so grand.

Thanks for the video and the sound! I was posting about a bird call I heard last week and stated that it sounded like it was saying hawk phonetically to me and had the pitch of a monkey. I think this may indeed be it.

That means they are across the street in the woods from me! I will be sure to investigate further next time I hear it.
