ALT Directors advise on UConn Saugatuck River Watershed Study

On Monday, June 16th several ALT Directors and members were invited to critique the survey content of the upcoming University of Connecticut research project, developed by UConn student John Tortorella of Storrs, Ct.. A primary focus of the survey is on the need and support for the addition of fish ladders at the numerous dams along the River- which limit the distance fish can travel upstream- and improve fish populations, water quality and recreational benefits.

ALT is proud to have been involved in several ladder installations recently (especially at Trout Brook Valley) . Westport Director Heather Williams , member and avid Saugatuck fisherman Colin Walklett (Heather’s husband), student John Tortorella,Weston Directors Bud Martin, Cynnie Williams and Jonathan Wagner (not shown), met in Weston for a trial survey completion and subsequent review of the document for content and ease of use. Fish ladders are expensive to build- $20-30,000- so your membership contribution helps in our effort to build more!
