This website takes you on a journey to track the migration of the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus). This migration is one of the most spectacular events in the insect work, and every year, millions of delicate but hardy monarchs and their offspring travel thousands of miles from Canada and the United States to overwinter in just a few mountain peaks in the states of Mexico and Michoacán, Mexico.
MonarchLIVE kicks off on Friday, October 10 from noon to 1 p.m. Eastern Time with a live broadcast and webcast. The annual migration of the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) is one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in the world, and the October 10 kickoff begins a series of electronic field trips that will be held throughout the 2008-09 school year. You will be able to e-mail questions or call them in to an 800 number during the live event.
